Celebrating Women for the Real World

Pimpin’ It Old Skool Style

Yes, she who said “I won’t volunteer for anything.”  She who said “I’ll be an Indian, not a Chief.”  Yes, that she would be me.  Guess what~ that she somehow is in charge for soliciting donations (large ticket items) to be used as door prizes, silent auction items and gifts to be won based on gambling dollars.

We are having a Casino Night (for adults).  All profits go to fund Project Prom for our kiddoes to enjoy after prom.  Unfortunately I tend to be a visionary of sorts.  I guess I threw a few too many good ideas out there and someone looked at me and said “Those are great!  Can you start calling around tomorrow?”  Blink, blink.  “Uh, yeah” says I.  Gulp!

Well, at least I’m older and wear big girls panties now and can take rejection much better than I used to.  Also, email has made contacting the unreachable much easier.

Here is where my “Pimpin’ Skills” come in.  Tell me what you would bid on in a silent auction, what you would just lurve to win as a door prize, and what items you’d really be interested in winning with your casino money.  Here are some ideas:

  • A laptop or tablet PC (Honey, pllllllleeeeeezzzzzzeeee) .  Really, all attendees will have a senior in high school that will hopefully be college bound.  Wouldn’t you bid on a computer?  Or at least try to win one?
  • Of course the Mary Kay basket, the BeutiControl basket (Jill-if you’re reading………love you, mean it), etc.
  • Plasma TV (Must be donated first)
  • Round of golf for 4 from area courses (should get several of these)
  • Hair cut a blow job (I mean dry….blow dry-but it made you laugh)
  • I’m thinking a “Spirit Basket” of donated items from our school Booster Club’s spirit shop

Now, here’s the part where I opened my mouth.  One of our families owns a car dealer (or three) and their daughter is a senior.  Don’t you think they’d like to donate a car?  Really.  I mean, wouldn’t you?

It is a “Casino Night”, don’t you think a fancy hotel in Vegas would be interested in donating a room?

I bet one of our parents owns a travel agency.  Don’t you think they’d like to donate a week in Hawaii (Air Fare not included)?

Tell me whatcha think and some ideas as to how you would “pimp” for goods.

those are great ideas! The hawaii hotel room was a great idea. Last year one of the wealthier families donated a week at their vacation home in porta vilarta (sp?) no airfair and it brought in $6,000!!!!!!! in the live auction.
Another cool thing that was for the raffle gifts was a couple of wing parties at buffalo wild wings…that is where all the kids hang out anyway.
Terri quance gave a senior portrait sitting – she does great work.
Oh, a couple of wine glasses and a nice bottle of wine..that was a hit.
A massage – that was another hit.
If I think of more then I will email you directly.
Oh yeah! YES you can count on me for a basket! When do you need this by?

Heyyyyy – you know Tilman Fratita or whatever his name is – of Landry’s and Kemah boardwalk fame – he owns (or part owns) the Golden Nugget now, hence all the commercials we see for it – surely he’d feel generous enough to do the community some good and donate the Vegas trip or some restaurant passes! 🙂

Sounds great. As a mom who is always sucked in, I know how it is. The car dealer should kick in, no question.

How about hitting up a casino like the one in Lake Charles for a weekend getaway package? Maybe easier to accomplish than Vegas. Or maybe even on in Biloxi?
