WARNING….All Cypress Residents
Yesterday when G2 finally finished the last part of his Eagle Scout Project, we called our insurance company and added him as a driver. After that, it didn’t take him ten minutes to have plans for the evening (I suddenly got that sinking feeling in my gut). He and a friend went to a baseball game at the High School. They came back to the house and G2 says “Dad, have you ever heard of ‘Dave & Busters’? Big G says “yes I have and you are not going there”. He then said that he found another “family fun” place close to the house so we agreed. Thirty minutes later I get a phone call:
Me: Hello
G2: Hi mom, we’re stuck in traffic.
Me: Where are you?
G2: On 290, we are at a stand still and life flight just landed in front of me.
Me: WHAT??? What do you mean Life Flight just landed in front of you?
G2: Well, there was an accident and we are stuck in traffic.
Me: Were you in the accident?
G2: NO MOM!!! As soon as we can turn around we are coming home.
After my heart stopped pounding through my chest I told Big G what happened. He actually said that it was a good thing that this happened his first night out driving because he might realize that he is not invincible. We’ll see!
The good news is that he came home 30 minutes before his curfew. The car and the kid all in one piece. This is a hard new phase to raising teenagers; I hope I live through it.
oh dear god. my kids, all 3 of them, will have to drive one day.
i was such a chicken i didn’t drive til i was 20. guess it’s too much to hope my kids won’t want to drive either.
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoYou WILL live through it but you will come away from it with more gray hairs. Hang in there girl, because it will all be over WAY to soon.
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoHang in there. Glad he’s ok. The Dave & Buster here actually more kids & teenagers go to than adults anymore. I remember when I was younger it was only a bar & game place for adults.
I thought the hardest part was now w/my kids, GREAT!LOL I already have enough grey hair from them.
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoOh, I think that’s a GREAT thing that he saw an accident his first time out. I hope that image sticks with him for a while.
Poor you.
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoAn accident that required life flight will definitely leave an impression on him.
Last time I went to Dave and Busters it was more like a daycare for kids whose parents wanted to get drunk while hoping that someone was watching their kids. I ended up sitting with a three year old for 20 minutes who was bawling and terrified while they paged her parents who just ‘didn’t notice’ she wandered off. Not so fond of that place anymore.

| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoYou KNOW I was playing that whole scene out in my head only with a female lead character, right?
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoSuch a good boy, I need to take notes from you.
| Posted 18 years, 1 month agoI’ve always said, THIS is one of the hardest milestone’s of raising my Big Kid, THE CAR.
While it was really hard to let him drive off by himself in the truck, I was calmed some by knowing who was driving, the kid WE raised. However, when he rode away with a kid down the street driving, THAT was horrible. I’d rather Trey drive, I know him.
And it never stops, every wreck we see in town, we look for Trey, it’s automatic almost.
Good luck to you both, it’s going to be a fun summer!!! 🙂
